Is it mandatory for women to cut their hair when joining the air force?

im thinking about enlisting and i was just wondering if i have to chop of my hair or if i can just wear it in a bun?Is it mandatory for women to cut their hair when joining the air force?
No you don't have to cut your hair, it just has to stay neatly pulled back, and is to never fall below the bottom of your collar, and bangs not below your eyebrow. In USAF bmt you can even use (non aerosol) hair product or bobby pins to help keep the hair neat.





edit: and believe it or not -shaving your head is against the regs. because it is a 'masculine' hair cut. Females cannot have masculine or faddish hair.Is it mandatory for women to cut their hair when joining the air force?
CLARIFICATION: im in the marines and before i went i was highly confused too about hair regualtion. you can have it long, but it must be secured in a bun. i know the marines are more strict on how you secure it, but i know a female that went to basic for the AF and she kept it long but eventually cut it after. do what you want tho, my hair brushes against my lower back and thats easy for me.
Hair will be styled to present a professional appearance. Plain and conservative pins, combs, headbands, elastic bands, and barrettes similar to the individual鈥檚 hair color permitted to keep hair in place.





Hair will not be worn in an extreme or fad style or violate safety requirements. Will not extend in length on all sides below an invisible line drawn parallel to the ground at the bottom edge of the shirt collar at the back of the neck. Will not exceed 3 inches in bulk or prevent proper wear of headgear. Will not include hair ornaments such as ribbons or jeweled pins.





Nail polish may be worn if it is conservative, single color, and in good taste. Nail polish will not contain any ornamentation.





Cosmetics must be conservative and in good taste.

based on that i would say a bun is a no no
You can wear it in a bun. No longer are you required to have your hair hacked in the man-ish hairstyle once required by females.





Note: Not true. You can have your hair long in BCT. You can wear it in a bun. Promise you.
Don't forget, you have to wear a hat a lot of the time during basic. You wont be able to wear a bun.





I suggest something no longer than shoulder length. that way you can pull it up for PT and wear it down to fit under a cap.
For Basic training, it has to be cut, but after that, you can let it grow out and just pin it up or wear it in a bun
a bun is NOT a no no, and what the first guy said is correct
if i were you, i would just shave your head, your hair will grow back anyway
