Is it MANDATORY for women entering the NAVY to cut their hair upon entering bootcamp?

Im considering joinging the us navy, and my hair is about 2 1/2-3 inches past my shoulders. my hair is EXTEREMLY thick and curly (almost coarse) and i know a short cut would not work for my hair. it would creat a havoc during my military training and would require more attention to it than needed.its easier to maintain long than it is short and put it in a neat tight bun. so what do i do? i hear every other branch except the navy dont have to cut their hair is this true?Is it MANDATORY for women entering the NAVY to cut their hair upon entering bootcamp?
Yes, your hair will be cut, all branches except maybe the Air Force, I will have to check on that one. They pull it into a pony tail and cut it right there. This ensures that during your 8 weeks of boot camp it will not touch your collar. They don't do this to make everyone's hair look stupid, just to ensure everyone's hair is regulation. Boot camp is a time managed evolution, everything has to be on schedule. Even though it doesn't take long for you to put your hair in a bun, multiply that by 88, which is the number of females in a division.

One way around this is to get it cut before you go to boot camp. Jut remember it should be about 1-1.5 inches above the collar of a button down shirt. This way you know your hair will be even and not just lopped off at the pony tail. Then after boot camp you can let it grow long just like it is now.

Don't let this deter you from starting a rewarding career in the Navy. Your hair will grow back and I am sure there will be at least 25 females with you that have even more unmanageable hair.

Best of luckIs it MANDATORY for women entering the NAVY to cut their hair upon entering bootcamp?
As long as your hair is in regulations and you keep it in a bun, then you will not have to cut it, from what I hear from most females is getting it cut short saves alot of time as in boot camp you dont much time to play with your hair. For simplicity I would say cut it and then grow it out, but you can keep it long and maintain it if you so choose.
yes the Navy is the only Branch that hacks it off at Reception to just above your collar. get it done yourself before shipping out.

nobody is going to care what your hair looks like in Boot so long as your cover is maintained properly. You are wearing Ball caps most of the time anyway...
Yes. The Navy cuts women's hair to be even with the bottom of the collar. After boot camp you can grow it out again. If it won't work at that length get it cut before you go to a short, short style.

Or join the Air Force.
Ace is wrong. The Navy does cut females hair to way above shoulder length regardless of your wishes or concerns.
man girls have gotta hate that. all the girls i've known would give a foot away before their hair (exaggerating only a little lol)
