What is a good business hairstyle for a mature woman with thigh-length hair? Cutting it is not an option.?

Hello dear, I too have fairly long hair by modern standards (to my hips) and I use this website, it has instructions and pictures. Some of them should be good for the office.

http://www.dressytresses.com/hair/galler鈥?/a>What is a good business hairstyle for a mature woman with thigh-length hair? Cutting it is not an option.?
Any up-do is a good option for business. Keep it conservative, but not done too tightly. I have hair that is mid-calf so I know its hard to find a style that will look and feel good with long hair.

First off, get the part/no part established. Do you like your hair parted on the side? Figure out how your hair lays best and looks good with your face. I like to part it on the side, or softly pulled back from my face. Try left-side and right-side parts. They really do make a difference because no body's face is completely symmetrical!

Once you have the front figured out, pull all your hair into a ponytail or half bun so that you can get an anchor to hold all your hair up with. If you have a good-gripping elastic, you can still keep your hair from being pulled too tightly.

Experiment with different up-dos. From braiding, to twisting, to (I know this sounds crazy) tying a large knot in it and anchoring it to your head. You can slightly curl the ends (make sure its not too fancy for business) and have a fuller ';bun';. You can also do a low bun, near the nape of your neck. This style is more relaxed and doesn't make you look like a jolly old grandma.

Whatever style you choose, make sure it will keep well throughout the day. Its not very business savvy to have tons of fly-aways!What is a good business hairstyle for a mature woman with thigh-length hair? Cutting it is not an option.?
I also have very long hair and wearing a ponytail if you do it well always looks stylish. Pull it up a bit at the front and make sure it isn't too low down on your neck. However if you are like me, pony tails begin to give you a headache after a while unless they are very low. A single braid all down your head is always a classic look. Buns are my favourite, and with long hair you can make big fat ones! One of my favourites is to put all your hair in a pony tail and put half in a bun. Then plait the other half and wrap it around the outside of the bun and tuck the ends in. Another look that is great is wrapping two plaits around your head. But be careful, this is a very old fashioned hair do and you have to make sure your clothes and make up are very modern. Dont make the plaits sit right on the hairline and keep them well above your ears.
Have you thought of a French Plait? It's very neat and tidy with an element of style and finesse too. Or, if you prefer to leave it loose, you could gather up a small amount at both sides and secure it at the back of your head with a clip. This will give you a smart look, show off the fantastic length of your hair but still leave your face open.

Hope this helps.
why isnt it an option???is it for an important cause or a religion? if its not for a really good reason other than ur attached to it i think u should cut it...after all it is just hair it grows back reguardless of how short u cut it. if not then id say curl it and make a messy bun...like this...

or try the buns and french twists on this one...

How about a style like this...
an up do or curling it would be good to.
try curling it

Someone mistook me for a woman today. Should I get a hair-cut?

You could always put rollers in it to create some curls, and also try wearing a dress, make up and heels so that you can then look just like a women if you dont want to cut youir hair,

Seriously don't cut your hair just because of other peoples comments and keep your hair in whatever style you wantSomeone mistook me for a woman today. Should I get a hair-cut?
well first of all u should stop thinking about wat others think and want for u. u should do wat you like. if you like your hair lake that then leave it and if not then cut it. but make sure wat ever u do it's cuz u want it, not because of others. and remember hair does not grow fast.Someone mistook me for a woman today. Should I get a hair-cut?
if someone thought you were a woman, get it cut.lol
If that's what you think is making you look ';feminine'; and if it's bothering you, then yes go for it.
if u are not feeling good and satisfied about your appearance , change your look including the hair cut
what?! somone mistook you 4 a woman!!!!! ok fist off if you think you should get one get one. but if you like your hair the way it is keep it. try wearing it up in a pony tail.

smile:-)

kwell girl
Do what ever suits your fancy, what ever you feel like doing.
That doesn't mean anything, some people think just because someone has long hair, they are female, even if they don't even look female. I wouldn't worry about it,if you like your hair long, keep it that way. People use to see my uncle driving my grandmas car and think it was her,he had long aurburn hair and so did she at the time.My uncle is tall and big, does not look like a female at all. My grandma is short and small. You see my point? Don't worry and good luck
I think Johnny Depp had this same problem about 10 years ago...

It seems like you have plenty of hair to work with, I suggest you go to a quality salon and ask for advice.

If it's a good place the employees should be happy to work with you.
my son has long hair also and he is mistaken for a girl al the time but he doesn't really care. If you start getting annoyed from it you should cut it.
Some guys can pull off having long hair, but if someone is mistaking you for a woman, you might want to change to a more masculine style. Personally, I prefer guys with short hair.
Only if is a something that you want.If somebody make mistake is the problem of that person, nothing to bother you.So if you want a hair cut go for it.

Is it wrong for a christian woman to cut her hair and if so prove it?

No! why would it be?Is it wrong for a christian woman to cut her hair and if so prove it?
No, it is not ';wrong';. The 10 commandments are the most important, and I don't see hair length mentioned.

If you want to open your Bible and peek in the index you may find everywhere the word ';hair'; is mentioned.

Another way to look that up would be at Biblegateway.com and do a keyword search for the word ';hair';.Is it wrong for a christian woman to cut her hair and if so prove it?
why would they not?
NO
It is not wrong for a Christian woman to cut her hair. If someone challenged you on it, they may be thinking of the story of Sampson. Sampson was a man who God gave special powers to...he was a great fighter and God supplied him strength as long as...

a. He didn't touch carcases

b. He didn't drink alcohol

c. He didn't cut his hair

To make a long story short, Sampson fell in love with an enemy named Delilah and she cut his hair while he was asleep and God stopped helping him.

This does not mean that no one can cut their hair...this was just a special case.
WHAT KIND OF WORLD R U LIVING IN??
ummm no lol. cutting your hair is somewhat of a health/hygiene thing. hair needs to be trimmed for its own health, just like teeth need to be brushed, nails clipped, etC!
uhhhh no.
i dont see why that would be wrong. is it wrong to brush your teeth? its just maintenance.
Why would it be wrong?? Im a Christian...I've never read anything in the bible or heard anything in a sermon saying its wrong for Christian women to cut their hair.
not at all..cutting your hair is a way of expressing yourself..

you see..when we cut our skin, it hurts right?but when we cut our nails or hair it doesn't..I think God make this happen so we can have the chance or the freewheel to do what we like..in moderation..coz, too much of something is bad..
wat the hell does cutting hair have to do with Christianity........if ur bothered by the verse that tell u not to cut ur hair .....just flip around until u find the other verse that says the opposite that its a good thing to cut ur hair ......its in there
if so... forgive me father, for I have sinned!
Since when does hair, cut or not, have anything to do with christianity?
No.
There is nothing really wrong with a person cutting their hair.

In the Bible, it does say that our bodies are a temple for the holy spirit, but if you believe that you can still worship God without being distracted by the world with your short hair, then go for it!

A question for all muslims: Is there any verses in the Qu'ran that talks about women not cutting there hair?

My boyfriend is a Muslim and is constantly on my case about not cutting my hair due to laws or some statement in the Qu'ran about being held accountable by God for allowing his woman to cut her hair. Is there any passage in the Qu'ran or any rule about women's hair length in the Qu'ran? Please help...I am clueless on this...I feel I should be able to wear my hair the way I want to.A question for all muslims: Is there any verses in the Qu'ran that talks about women not cutting there hair?
dear sister :

A woman may cut her hair ,must get permission from male family member, Hair may be cut no shorter than shoulder length...( IT IS NOT SUPPOSED TO RESEMBLE ';A MANS HAIRCUT';..A question for all muslims: Is there any verses in the Qu'ran that talks about women not cutting there hair?
Firstly I think your boyfriend should be more worried about the fact HE has a girlfriend and less about the length of your hair.

Or did he miss that part in the Quran about being chaste and modest and not messing with a female who is not his wife? Hmmmm

EDIT

Neither he nor you can be serious about your faith. I dont know a Muslim man alive who could be with a woman who spoke about his faith in such a way unless he did not give a monkeys either. What a hateful person you are...

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;鈥?/a>

I think the length of your hair is the least of either of your worries.

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;鈥?/a>

Funny that you say one thing but then you have a Muslim BF hmmm not worried about him killing you then seen as we Muslims are taught to kill people? Honestly you should be ashamed as a Christian for spreading such lies and propeganda. Is that what Jesus (pbuh) would do? I dont think so.
Wow...

I know the meaning of quran and the rules it has put. I have neither heard of this before, nor seen. He must be confused, or too much into his religion.
No. There is no such reference. Show your boyfriend that YOU run your life by shaving your head. You'll love the freedom and look so cute!

Do Woman go to barber shops for there hair cut?

Yes..Nowadays, Barbers are learning exactly what a Cosmetologist learns, So there is no difference(and not every women that goes to one is a Redneck, and I'm sure they still do care about there appearance.)...Alot of women, since the 20's(and I';m sure before.) have gone.
I have short hair and i go to a barber shop for my haircuts they do a great job. Oh and im not a redneck.
only girls that dont care much about their appearence. I do and I always want to go to a place where i know the stuff are experts. i cannot afford them messing up with my hair.
No. If it's called a barber shop it means that it's a place where only guys get there hair done.
Lol, maybe if they're rednecks and they don't wanna pay a lot of money.

I guess some do for like trims.

  • I have a question for women about a hair-cut I think I want.?

I have a question for women about a hair-cut I think I want. I'm just not sure if it would look too out-dated, or out of style. It was actually on a guy in a brand new episode of CSI: Miami, so it must be @ the very least coming back into style. To view the hair-cut I'm speaking of copy %26amp; paste this link n2 your address bar. http://youtube.com/watch?v=rzlvettrolq%26amp;m...

Also, he is the guy with brown hair 32 seconds into the video. (you can view the timer on the bottom of the youtube video screen. Let me know what u think ladies, after all I am single %26amp; hoping 2 find that lucky lady. And I don't want some hair-cut that u ladies would find out-dated. haha Thanks, ladies! Once again, here's the link u can copy %26amp; paste n2 your address bar. The guy's exactly 32 seconds n2 the video. he's in the whole video quite a bit but that is one scene it shows the whole hair-cut the best. Thanks! http://youtube.com/watch?v=rzlvettrolq%26amp;m...I have a question for women about a hair-cut I think I want.?
Couldn't find the video.. but i think the best idea is to talk to your hairstyler. he's gottaknow what's working and what's not and besides, if you want a specific haircut, you have to be sure HE gets it right.

What is the best hairstyle for a large woman with long curly hair who wants it cut short?

If the face is round, I'd recommend something flattering to the face - possible layers that can go either way (towards the face, or where they can be flipped out the opposite way).

Get some different opinions from a hairstylist. Because of your curly hair, if you go short, you'll probably have to use a flat iron on a daily basis. My hair is very wavy and when I cut it short, there was no living with it unless I flat ironed it.

Good luck! What is the best hairstyle for a large woman with long curly hair who wants it cut short?
angled and layered shoulder lengthWhat is the best hairstyle for a large woman with long curly hair who wants it cut short?
I have curly hair. Don't cut it short. It will make you look so much bigger. Keep it shoulder-length with some soft layers around your face. You need a really good stylist.
if you cut it short you should really do a funky style and learn quick easy styles. you need a versatile cut so find a good stylist. bigger girls who have short funky hair and a good personality are sexy. learn how to use finishing products and irons the right way and get creative. or i cant see you so i dont know

Is it a sin for a woman to cut her hair per the Bible?
    per the Bible???!!! but why?
i don't think so, depending on factors such as employment , culture etc:

but they are encouraged to let it grow long because it's their crowning glory
My Dear its not a sin to a woman to cut her hair, becauce when the hair grows long it Reall irritates Me as a woman. when its hot the hair is just in the way,of getting cool.... I know you must not change what you should,nt God Created us So we must stay as we are... Rite!!!!
    I dont know!

I have not heard abt this before.
NO old customs SIN is anything that seperates you from the love of GOD IE ten commandments it doesnt say that women thou shalt not cut thy hair it is all how we choose to follow himbesides women are uncovered in the face to are they doomed to hell becouse of it i think not!!!!
In the Bible it says something about her hair being her glory and a covering. But I can't remember where or what verse. But I don't remember it saying anything about it as a sin to cut it.

What kind of hair style/cut is good for a woman with a lot of hair?

    I have a lot of hair. So much hair that every hair dresser I have ever been to has felt the need to make mention of it. Not just a passing comment either, but a ';Wow, you have twice as much hair as most people. I am sure people have told you this before. How do you deal with so much hair?';

My problem is that, because there is so much hair, it is pretty much impossible for me to do anything but wear it up. No matter how long I spend with a hair straightener, it is always too poofy to look anything but unkept. I want to be able to keep my hair at least shoulder length and wear it down without looking like I have never heard of a brush.

Is there any way of having my hair thinned, or finding a style that allows me to do this? What kind of hair style/cut is good for a woman with a lot of hair?
    hmmm

    same situation as me

    well get layers

    i mean..if your hair's long

tell them that you want to keep the length but you want to thin it out

    they'll fix it really nice

thats the hair cut i got

SHORT LAYERS .. THIN IT OUT .. and KEEP THE LENGTH

it looked REALLY REALLY niceWhat kind of hair style/cut is good for a woman with a lot of hair?
have you ever heard of yuko systems? it's a chemical straightening that they do at a salon, and it lasts for about 4 to 6 months, or however long it takes for your hair to grow out and show again. it becomes poker straight and also thinner (though i'm not sure if thats from the chemicals or the fact that it's straight) two of my friends had the exact same problem and this made it a lot easier for them to deal with.

other than that i can suggest having it cut in layers, which will create a thinner effect?

i hope you find something that works for you, every girl deserves to feel effortlessly beautiful.

    good luck!
    u can layer ur hair
getting your hair layered will help thin it out and make it not so heavy, using a serum to smooth hair will also help.
have rebonded hair... you can also cut thin your hair if you want.

Why do some Pentocostal churches call it a sin for a woman to cut her hair?

Also, some don't allow make-up, but the women use tanning beds and wear artificial nails, why is that? Why do some Pentocostal churches call it a sin for a woman to cut her hair?
As usual, it is a mistaken interpretation of a simple scripture.

    1 Corinthians 11:15 ';if a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her';

Of course, this was a suggestion ....not a law.

However, those that go to the extreme include make-up, etc.Why do some Pentocostal churches call it a sin for a woman to cut her hair?
omg! i go to a pentecostal church and ive been raised there! i have realy long hair but i do wear makeup and stuff its not a sin or anythin,,,hez not gonna damn me to hell it says beauty is from the inside and thatz how god sees us.

My church is pentocostal and we cann do those things. That's like old style kind of strict when some churches dont let you do that. My church lets you.

I agree with arkieangel2000 I just recently became pentecostal. I've learned not to be materialistic nor vein. I don't wear wear make up not just because of the scripture but because I feel like I'm hiding who I really am. I believe in inner beauty and by using make up I feel as though I'm destroying what God has given me, telling him that I hate his work. I also don't use artificial nails or tanning beds. It goes back to my inner beauty belief and think of it as being very vein and I'm not. More churches are stricter than others
    1 Corinthians 11:14-15

14Does not the very nature of things teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him, 15but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For long hair is given to her as a covering.
Because they are mistakenly believing that love for God is based upon what we do rather than what Jesus did.

Jesus accepts all of us just as we are. We are not told to change anything in order to come to Him.

Rules and regulations are not what it is about. Jesus' life, suffering, death, burial, and resurrection are.
thats a new one on me
This is cultural stuff from long ago and has nothing to do with a religious mind. This comes from a time when women were required to be submissive to men, obeying the male culture rules down to how she wore her hair. Men thought they needed to keep women under control or they themselves could not be religious. We have certainly become more enlightened than that in the last two thousand years.
I've had enough of religions that tell you what to do, not to do, how to think, how to act, how to feel, what to say, what not to say, and this one- not to cut your hair, what to eat, what not to eat, if you're supposed to wear socks to services, when to have sex (only when you're trying to conceive, damnit!!!!), how much money to put in the collection basket (has to be a certain % of your pay!!!), what time to have breakfast, when you can or cannot shave, tell you not to take birth control pills......................

Doesn't this sound totally freakin' ridiculous?????????????

Who in the hell, besides our beloved Jesus, put these restrictions on our lives? Was that what God intended when he gave us birth? He would NEVER want us to be all paranoid because of doing one of these stupid things. There!!!!!!!!!

P.S. They do this because they all have a power and control issue, which, by the way, is called ';abuse.'; Ask any domestic violence organization.
I am Pentecostal and do not cut my hair, wear makeup, jewelry, fake nails, or tan. I CHOOSE this life because I feel it is something God has asked of me. I have carefully studied the scripture and apply 1 Corinthians 11:5-6, and

1 Timothy 2:9 very literally to my life. I know Pentecost women that do cut their hair and wear makeup, for them it may not be sin that's not my call to make. But for me, since I feel convicted of it, it would be a sin to go back to the life I led before coming to Christ.
Why? Because they are mentally ill goblins who have formalized and institutionalized their madness. Oh, it's SUCH A SIN for a woman to cut her hair... they may as well demand that all true believers adorn themselves with banana peels, only speak in a Bozo the Clown falsetto, and practice kung-fu with one hand.

I'm sure many Pentecostals WOULD do these things if asked, too... that's the scary thing!
Because the Bible says that a woman's long hair is her 'glory.' And the rest has to do with vanity and looking like a harlot.
    Control - it's all about control . . .= power

They who make the rules for 'others' to follow -

And those 'others' choose to do so . . .

    They (others) are controlled =

    power to the rule makers/enforcers/leaders
    Because it's their belief.
I see the Bible verse they refer to has already been mentioned. When I was in Puerto Rico I met many wonderful Pentecostal ladies. I have also met a few in different states. I think they are doing a good job being sincere in their beliefs, and I also think their adherence to these standards helps eliminate gender confusion. I don't know which women you know who go to tanning beds and have fake nails. All the ones I met were about as natural as you could get, even avoiding makeup and most jewelry. In fact, as a Mormon missionary in Puerto Rico I actually decided to get earrings partly to show that it was ok to have one set of earrings and still be modest and Christian and feminine and respect the Bible.
    Sounds stupid
It's an interpretation of a biblical reference to how women should dress and act. Each church usually interprets the passages in a different way.
I believe that the womens hair is her glory. But I also think that you should be able to make your self feel better and look nice.

I am Pentocostal and I don't were make up or tan but I do people who do.

A lot is on there own conviction with God.

    Where does it say that?
There's no need for you to think about it. If women want to shave their legs, it's OK. They can also cut their hair if they want to. But all I know, their long hair is their veil.
and men aren't supposed to shave their beards (Leviticus)
they cut their hair. It's one of the sacrifices they make. Holy women don't have time for hair, nor to make a vanity of it.
I would feel naked without my long hair.

I used to be Pentecostal and I followed all of those rules for years. But When I started reading and studying the Bible, I never could find and answer to those questions. In fact I still have yet to find an answer. As it is I shave my legs, cut my hair, and wear pants, make-up and jewelry, and I am closer to God than ever. Because women are commanded to cover thier head in the presents of G-D and long hair serves that purpose since they are in G-Ds presence everywhere they go, Christian women should simply wear hats while in church.
You can wear makeup and pants. No where in the Bible does it say you can't. God just wants ladies to be modest
Silly one, its because its the way Jesus wants it.

Antiquated law which needs to be repealed! Why is it illegal in Michigan for a woman to cut her own hair without her husband鈥檚 permission.?
because the man has the rule over the woman's body, and the woman has the rule over the man's just as well.
It use to be illegal for married women to use birth control. Stupid laws huh. These laws purport to go with the Bible.
it's one of those old laws that dates back in the 1800s or earlier.

What is the rationale for Pentecostal women not cutting their hair?

I have not found an instance in the Bible that a women was cast out because of cut hair. Any help would be appreciated. What is the rationale for Pentecostal women not cutting their hair?
You will not be cast out, however a woman's hair is supposed to be her crowning glory. What is the rationale for Pentecostal women not cutting their hair?
I would think just because our hair is our crowning glory, it wouldn't mean we couldn't get a trim every once in a while. What's a crowning glory if it doesn't look good?!

13Judge in yourselves: is it comely that a woman pray unto God uncovered?

14Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?

15But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.
Somewhere in Corinthians, Paul mentions that women's hair are their head covering. So short hair will lessen the covering, I think. Someone approached me about this and I still think, if it is your hair you can chop away. Anyway, that's probably the Pentecostal logic.
Beware of ';Pastor'; Tony his arguments are unbiblical. refer to the scriptures above. Jesus was the sacrifice for our sins, but we still have to follow him. Corinthians is very plain about women cutting their hair. Yes it is your hair and you can do whatever you wish with it, but by the same token, you can do anything you want at all, but that doesn't mean that you will go to Heaven. I think it is wise to follow the Bible instead of saying that your body is yours and you can do with it as you wish. The Bible also tells us that our bodies are temples of the Holy Ghost. This is of course if we are Christians. How can the temple of the Holy Ghost be Holy if it is not taken care of according to the Word of God? Hope this helps
its not so bad when theyre young-but when theyre old, long, thinning grey hair is NOT a good look- very ';witchy';, so u'd think theyd cut it.
I was raised in a reformed Pentecostal church. The main reason usually given is because of a passage in Revelations that deals with men being indistinguishable from women in the ';end times.'; (Too lazy to look it up right now, sorry). Therefore, women must have long hair, men must have short hair, women can't wear pants (typically) and men -certainly- can't wear anything feminine. The other physical requirements generally have to do with modesty.
Hello, my name is Pastor Tony den Hartog. There is really no rationale for hairstyle or any other legislation for Christian behaviour. All these things are really old Law concepts to control behaviour by law and legislation. They do not apply

to Christian Church. You can see they same control in Islam where woman have to wear their habit on their head to cover their face and hair. This is all law. Jesus redeemed us from the curse of the controlling Law so if you like you can search my website: http://freedomvoice.net where you will find freedom from all legislation and behaviour patterns. Blessings. Pastor Tony.

Cute hair cuts for a young gray haired woman?

I am only 17 years old, but am going gray (naturally). I am looking for a short hair cut that won't age me. Other info about me: I am kind of dark (hispanic origin) and lets just say I have a ';womanly'; figure :) oh, and I think I have a round face. Can someone please send me links or something with suggestions?Cute hair cuts for a young gray haired woman?
Long hair appeals to most men, so you may have to dye it. Maybe a naturopath or Chinese doctor can suggest a supplement which will turn your hair back to its original colour.Cute hair cuts for a young gray haired woman?
I grayed early too. I started to get gray hair at ten, but I always keep it colored. But if your not big on chemicals, try a rinse. I would pick a rinse I liked and it would just color the gray hair and not the dark hair.. So it would look like I got highlights, but without the chemicals. Anyway, I think a short spikey look would be cute. Especially with the gray hair because it would look real funky and cool. Maybe a cut like this:

    http://www.myhaircuts.com/shorthaircuts2鈥?/a>

    Or something funkier than that.

If your interested in the hair coloring the rinse that good is jazzy. You find ithttp://www.sallybeauty.com/Jazzing+Sheer鈥?/a> at Sally's
I would suggest some haircuts but I honesly think that you should dye your hair and regain some of your youth while you still have it. Black, brown, brunette, blonde, etc look great in modern society but you don't see many gray haired people, this is usually because it hints at old age.

Sorry if this is a little offensive but Im just trying to help %26lt;3

Is it illegal for a married woman to get her hair cut without her husbands permission?

I can't believe all these people fell for your question! Seriously, you just started this to get a rise from the women and start a male-bashing session. Do what you want. A husband can't force a wife to do something any more than a wife can force a husband. Unbelievable! Is it illegal for a married woman to get her hair cut without her husbands permission?
No, of course not! That just sounds ridiculous, illegal to get your haircut with your husband's permission! Have you been under a rock a few hundred years? Wait, is this man controling? Abusive? If so leave him! Is he telling you this stuff! And you actually believe it? You know what, both of you get some counseling. Is it illegal for a married woman to get her hair cut without her husbands permission?
Work it out yourself...is it illegal for him to cut his hair without your permission? Treat others the way you wish to be treated but if they persist in not treating you well...get out. It sounds like you may be mentaly abused. Its time for you and your partner to talk it out with an impartial professional person to reconfirm your boundries.
Is it legal for a husband to give permission to a wife to cut her hair?

Yes, you can cut you hair. Hubby can pay for it too.
No.You are a grown adult and can do whatever you want. You don't need to get permission from your husband.

If you do,then maybe you need to rethink your marriage.
If my husband (i dont have one) or bf, told me what to do, I would tell him to F*** off and get some other sleezy chick to do whatever he wants.
    hell no

a husband can't tell you what to wear, why does he have the authority to decide whether you can cut your hair.

    psh
yes it is...in all 50 states where there are controlling husbands. But If in the state there are non controlling husbands...it is not illegal
No.. but if it was then i would still be in jail from my first marriage.. i have to ask, who gave you this idea? this is america..they dont have enuff room to put people in jail for haircuts.. lol
no its not illegal. U can do anything without your husbands permission. If he is controlling get rid of him.
    Are you kidding?

You can do what you want with your appearance.
Um...you don't need a man's permission for ANYTHING! It is 2008 and we live in the amazing USA! Cut it if you want.

  • Do women who join the navy have to get there hair cut if its long enough for a military style bun?

Yes. I would get it cut by your normal stylist before you leave. I got it cut to my chin before I left for boot camp and I never had to get it recut while I was there. After that you have to put it in a bun if it is past the bottom edge of a collar on a collared shirt. Air force can wear pony tails though I hear. I've worked with the air force before and it always seemed like their hair standards were more relaxed than the other branches.Do women who join the navy have to get there hair cut if its long enough for a military style bun?
Oh yeah! They are quick to chop it off. They don't car and the civilians cutting your hair are in a rush because they have hundreds others waiting in line to get their hair cut too. So don't expect a nice fancy haircut. Hight as well do it before you get there.Do women who join the navy have to get there hair cut if its long enough for a military style bun?
Yes. If your hair is long it gets cut to about chin length. After boot camp you can wear it however it fits into regulation. See picture.

    http://usmilitary.about.com/library/pdf/鈥?/a>
for bootcamp they will cut your hair... after that you can grow it out and put it in a bun as long as you can pass inspections
Yes you will have to cut your hair in boot camp. Then after boot camp you can have it as long as you want.

    Navy recruiter in Ohio
Only to your Sholder but plese dont join the army
if it's too long to be styled to regulation, yes. Typically your hair will be at shoulder length
You should cut your hair above your collar before you ship out. You can sell your hair at: http://hairbuyer.com

Is it MANDATORY for women entering the NAVY to cut their hair upon entering bootcamp?

Im considering joinging the us navy, and my hair is about 2 1/2-3 inches past my shoulders. my hair is EXTEREMLY thick and curly (almost coarse) and i know a short cut would not work for my hair. it would creat a havoc during my military training and would require more attention to it than needed.its easier to maintain long than it is short and put it in a neat tight bun. so what do i do? i hear every other branch except the navy dont have to cut their hair is this true?Is it MANDATORY for women entering the NAVY to cut their hair upon entering bootcamp?
Yes, your hair will be cut, all branches except maybe the Air Force, I will have to check on that one. They pull it into a pony tail and cut it right there. This ensures that during your 8 weeks of boot camp it will not touch your collar. They don't do this to make everyone's hair look stupid, just to ensure everyone's hair is regulation. Boot camp is a time managed evolution, everything has to be on schedule. Even though it doesn't take long for you to put your hair in a bun, multiply that by 88, which is the number of females in a division.

One way around this is to get it cut before you go to boot camp. Jut remember it should be about 1-1.5 inches above the collar of a button down shirt. This way you know your hair will be even and not just lopped off at the pony tail. Then after boot camp you can let it grow long just like it is now.

Don't let this deter you from starting a rewarding career in the Navy. Your hair will grow back and I am sure there will be at least 25 females with you that have even more unmanageable hair.

Best of luckIs it MANDATORY for women entering the NAVY to cut their hair upon entering bootcamp?
As long as your hair is in regulations and you keep it in a bun, then you will not have to cut it, from what I hear from most females is getting it cut short saves alot of time as in boot camp you dont much time to play with your hair. For simplicity I would say cut it and then grow it out, but you can keep it long and maintain it if you so choose.
yes the Navy is the only Branch that hacks it off at Reception to just above your collar. get it done yourself before shipping out.

nobody is going to care what your hair looks like in Boot so long as your cover is maintained properly. You are wearing Ball caps most of the time anyway...
Yes. The Navy cuts women's hair to be even with the bottom of the collar. After boot camp you can grow it out again. If it won't work at that length get it cut before you go to a short, short style.

    Or join the Air Force.
Ace is wrong. The Navy does cut females hair to way above shoulder length regardless of your wishes or concerns.
man girls have gotta hate that. all the girls i've known would give a foot away before their hair (exaggerating only a little lol)

Why is it customary for men to cut their hair short but not women?

because men have been cutting their hair short for centuries so its become the norm. Where as womens hair is associated with beauty through out history, thus long hair = beautiful hair (according to norms and historical cultural practices)

I believe ( I could be wrong) that men started cutting their hair short to keep it from become a problem in battle. Wouldn't be to good to have some guy grabbing your hair and cutting your head off with a sword. Why is it customary for men to cut their hair short but not women?
I believe this is work related. Men are traditionally relegated to hard labor and hair gets in the way when you bend over to remove rocks or to plant your crop. The same thing with kilts (skirts) vs pants-nobody wants to see THAT all day!Why is it customary for men to cut their hair short but not women?
I have no idea. I used to have past the shoulder length hair (I'm a guy), but I had to get a business cut to make a good impression at a national conference. I like women with short hair (I think they are really hot) but I also like women with really long hair too.
    Customary where?

Men and women can cut their hair;but most men probably prefer/are atracted to a woman with long hair.

  • Why is it a problem for some that some women cut their hair?

Some people make a big deal at times because celebrity women or any other women cuts their hair like in a fade or cut it period. Long hair isn't everything. Women either cut their hair because they want to or they want to try a new style point blank. I know my mom is against me cutting my hair not in a fade but I'm cutting some so my hair could grow hell I might just keep it short! what's your opinion on this? Why is it a problem for some that some women cut their hair?
It isn't feminine enough, especially from guys point of view, and some women think this way too. Some believe it makes a woman look like a man, they can't their fingers through a short hair woman's hair and think it's gross because it's like dating another guy because of the short look.

I find it funny that no one finds it wrong that a guy wears their hair long (but I guess because Jesus did it's OK for men to do the same) but all hell breaks loose when a woman wants to chop her hair off. Do these people ever thought she might want to try a different look because sometimes, long hair can become repetitive and there comes a time when a woman wants to stand out from the sea of women with long hair?

Yes short hair IS beautiful and if I were you, I will go ahead and cut it anyway. It is your hair, do what makes you happy and do not worry what other people think. I had short hair for the last seven years and get compliments by both men and women and I'm far from butch and have a fiance.

That how society is and while there is no way to change it, you can go against what 'standard beauty' a woman should have because for every person that hates short hair, there will be more who loves it.Why is it a problem for some that some women cut their hair?
Some people apparently have nothing better to than rag on others %26amp; tell them how they should look. This has been discussed by longhairs a lot %26amp; there are a lot of different theories as to why folks try to dictate how someone else should look - jealousy, you don't fit their idea of how someone should look, petty meanness, etc.

I say it's your hair on your head, you should be able to wear the way you like it. The only exception might be if you are a minor %26amp; live with your parents, especially if they're the ones paying for the stylist. In that case, I would talk it over with them, calmly %26amp; logically, to reach a middle ground where you would all be happy. A good response I got from a hair forum I'm a member of is ';I am not here to decorate your world.'; Just be careful with your tone when you use this line, especially with your parents.

Hope that helps. Best of luck to you. :)
I think some women are used to thinking that long hair means beauty and sexiness. But some women look much better with shorter hair. I used to have pretty long hair when I was younger but it was a hassle, so I cut my hair short and it was kinda like a bob but just above the shoulders. And I kept cutting it shorter and shorter until the longest part of my hair was at my jaw line. I still remember when my friends freaked out when they saw me. But now I'm growing out my hair so that it would be shoulder length or just above the shoulders. Some people don't like change so if they had long hair for a long time, they aren't willing to get it cut shorter. Different people have different opinions.
i think most people that bother with the whole celebrity thing and making a big deal about their hair, have absolutely no life.

i mean i agree with you, people should be able to get their hair done the way they want without people being nosey and rude about it.

but see with your mom, and some other parents out there, they may just want you to keep your hair longer because its more of the traditional thing to do, and for some people its a religious thing.

and sometimes, men think longer hair is more sexy, ';cuz it gives them something to pull';. lol, i hear guys say it all the time.

but i agree people should be able to get their hair cut however they want.
A lot of people have this idea that the only way to be feminine (hair-wise) is with long, girly hair.

Personally, I think a lot of women look really good with short hair (Halle Berry, Winona Ryder). There's also a world of difference between short and long that a lot of other women should be willing to bridge.
Hair is like a security blanket for some, if not a lot of, women. It's a just a way to feel less insecure. For others, though, it's a canvas for experimentation. It really just depends.
I guess some women think it would make them look manly, and others think of their hair as sort of a security blanket, and without it they might feel like they're not beautiful.

I could understand that, I mean they need their hair for emotional support.

The thing I don't like is when people judge a girl by their hair length when they look completely fine!

The whole fade thing I saw Rihanna get the other day...was fabulous!

She looks great, but I have heard some people say she's crazy for buzzing off her hair, which I might have agreed with if she looked awful. But, she doesn't, she looks fantastic!

    Being a girl with short hair does have it's ups and downs, trust me %26gt;.%26lt;

I have some people come up to me and ask me, ';Why did you cut off all your hair?'; (Which I didn't! It's past my chin ;))

And I also get some people who ask me who did it, what style it is in, and that tell me I have great hair :D

Why does women cut theur hair? Is it fashin or for comfort or............?

For appearance. To look neat and fashionable.

I guess women in some cultures don't ever cut their hair. I suppose that's one way to save money, but I don't like that long stringy look, especially on older women. Why does women cut theur hair? Is it fashin or for comfort or............?
the simple reason is hygiene. because all this beauty and fashion wasn't around thousands of years ago. so think about how it actually started and how we are doing it today. it must be because it is something that has always happened. and the reason for it was hygiene.

now though, attitudes towards cutting hair have evolved along with society. people are obsessed with how they look and therefore cut hair according to fashion and trends aswell as for hygiene.

Why does women cut theur hair? Is it fashin or for comfort or............?
i had really long hair most of my life. long hair is a lot of upkeep and maintenance. you have to wash it everyday, blow dry it everyday. just that alone can take up to an hour! it is ridiculous!

i cut my hair for convenience...neither fashion nor comfort! now i can take a shower, put on makeup, dry my hair , put on my clothes, and be ready to go....all in 30 minutes! versus the hour or more i had to go thru everyday when i had long hair!
You mean why do women cut their hair short? Or in general? Well, it's really easy to get bored with one hair style for one. Also, it keeps it healthy and shiny to get the nasty dead ends trimmed off. And long hair is hard to manage and dry every day. So fashion, comfort and health are all reasons.
Why do we cut our hair? You cut your hair too, I would imagine... it's a lot of reasons.

Fashion/trends make you pick the style, or convenience of length, or just overall hygiene not wanting to have long dirty hair...
I get my hair cut when the bangs are too long and feel like my hair needs to be cut. I would say that it is for comfort not so much fashion. I am probably due for a hair cut in a few weeks.
I cut like 8 inches of mine a while back. I did it for a change. I know I look good with both long and short and yes it is easier to manage.

Now I am growing it out again for a change.
a lot of women cut it for fashion sake while an equal amount cut for comfort sake. I cut mine for both! i need short hair, i live in the tropics.
women cut there hair for many reasons, sometimes because the what something different or because something went really wrong with there hair and they need to cut it like i sed there are many reasons

EWWW! I saw one today... it was hilarious. Mullets are HIDEOUS and ugly.

Is it safe for black women sporting short hair cuts to get their hair relaxed every two weeks?

For a woman wearing long hair, she gets her hair relaxed every 6-8 weeks. My friend tells me that every time she gets her hair done, (every two weeks), no matter who does it, she always gets it relaxed yet again. I fear that this may damage her hair completely. Any Black hair stylists out there??? Thanks! Is it safe for black women sporting short hair cuts to get their hair relaxed every two weeks?
She will be bald, burnt, and scabbed up in the next month or so if not sooner... That's just plain crazy.. It's bad enough to relax at all and risk damage..

6 - 8 weeks is the norm.. but every 2 weeks... i'm laughing.. Her stylist has her fooled into taking all her money.. it costs so much more to relax than to just wash/blow/curl.. She must be forking over 60 - 80 every 2 weeks..

The relaxer/touchup is for getting the new growth straight.. what new growth can she POSSIBLY have in 2 weeks.. Hair does not even grow that fast that she has new hair in 2 weeks that needs to be relaxed..

She's krazy...Is it safe for black women sporting short hair cuts to get their hair relaxed every two weeks?
They cut the old hair off to keep the short style so it's really like perming new hair each time and is safe
no!!!!!!!!! dude her hair is gonna get major damage im not a stylists but im around people that do hair and they wouldnt advise it. but if ur friend is going to a shop to get it done then it might be okay cuz shops don't relax the hair all the way and they its okay every 2 weeks cuz thats how they get paid . but i would tell her to stop cuz its straining her hair way to much
Tell her don't do it. Her hair is bound to fall out. If her hair grows super fast and she needs a perm every two weeks then that is okay. Black hair is way different from white hair. Our hair can dry out at the drop of a pin. If she gets it permed every two weeks, she is not giving her hair enough time to grow. She is perming it at the first sign of new growth. I can understand not wanting new growth but just get a hair style that moves around your new growth. Like flat ironing it or pinning it up. Luck.

At what age is appropriate for a woman to cut her hair short?

I cut mine short at 17. Is it appropriate for women in their 20s 30s and 40s to have long hair? My mother does not think so. She says it ages you.At what age is appropriate for a woman to cut her hair short?
Never... Long hair really makes a woman look beautiful regardless of how old they are. And with women from at any age, the longer the better. I guess this is assuming that it's in good condition and not ratty. But if a lady is in her 40's or even older, long hair knocks off at least 10 years off of her age. kind of ironic that women spend so much money to try to look younger, when all they have to do is grow their hair out.At what age is appropriate for a woman to cut her hair short?
Cookie girl, that is sad, sad about mother thought you were a boy and cutting your hair short.

Now, do you mean short short like boy short.

I have seen women at least 4 of them that I know wear boy short short cuts, and they look like lesbians, although they are married. I swear that the husbands must have been blind when they married them. Short like a boy is very dykish.

    Where is the femininity?
little girls look better with long hair, and through the 20s long hair (maintained well) looks good-usually. after about 35 or 40, if you age normally (no surgery and not too fast) shorter hair would be good, not short hair. when it turns grey or white, short is the way to go. old ladies with long flowing white locks just isnt attractive to me.
I love long hair on a girl.
I'm sorry, she's wrong. I'm 33, my hair is half way down my back, in a cute layered perm. Looks great! I don't see me with short hair... ever! To my shoulders perhaps, but that's it! I don't look good with short hair, and won't wear it just to be ';age appropriate';. Obviously there are some styles you have to avoid as you mature. For example I quit wearing pigtails in elementary school!
I am 33 and I have long straight hair nearly to my waist. It increases my attractiveness majorly. You should never cut your hair cos of someone elses opinion and usually people who want you to cut your hair are just jealous. What ages people if following and conforming to to other peoples beliefs and opinions and not standing up for yourself and what you like.
I cut mine short when I was 29. I agree with your mom about older women having long hair...it's like they're trying desperately to hold on to their youth by keeping their hair long. Most of these women probably also borrow their teenage daughter's clothes. They look ridiculous.
well, i guess it depends on your face. short hair, always make people look younger, but yeah. long hair on old people is kinda creepy looking, yeah? like i mean butt-long....
i have to agree with your mother, long hair on older women looks either scruffy, slutty,or worst of all mutton dressed as lamb.by the time a woman reaches her early forties she should think about cutting her hair into a more age appropriate style.

before i get all the thumbs down, thats just my opinion.
Yes..I will NEVER cut my hair.

    is classic.

    cutting make's you age.
its up to you don't be a drone..
I am in my 20's and I love my long hair. I have cut it to below my shoulders several times but have always let grow out to below my waist. I like changing my hair style and trying new colors. I add highlights or get my hair cut in layers.

Enjoy your hair no matter what your mom says. As long as your hair is healthy and well maintained, I see no problem.

By the way, I know a lot of men who love long hair in women, they say it looks sexy.
my whole life since i was a little girl, my mother kept my hair very, very short. i tried to get her to let me grow it but she never would let me grow it. i found out later, that it was because she always wished i had been a boy.
I'm only 20.. But I know hundreds of guys who love long hair including my husband. My mother is 46 and loves her long curls, my mother in law just turned 50 and would do anything to have her long hair back. Dont do what your mother wants, Do what you want. If your hair bothers you or you cant keep up with it, that doesnt mean it has to be Really short, shoulder length isnt bad..
which hair were you talking about?
cutting hair short makes almost people think a lesbian, besides having a long hair make you look so girly
It completely depends on the woman, her preferences, her face shape, the condition of her hair - so many things!

I am 28 and love long hair - but my own hair just does not look pretty when its longer - so I keep it between chin and shoulder length because it suits my face.
Its your hair not your mothers, i cut mine short for summer then let it grow for the colder months. and being in your teen-30s aging shouldn't really be worring you at this point.........

Keep it sholder length or longer with either short or long layers depending on the thickness of your hair. Keep it close to your face so you don't accentuate your cheeks. If you have a high forhead, and don't want to deal with bangs you can sweep some hair across your forehead, and pin it behind your ear. If you curl your hair. then curl it towards the outside. This will sweep the hair back a bit but still keep it close to your face. Hope this helpsWhat is a good hair style or cut for a woman with a round face (and big cheeks)?
agh-I have a round face and have found that shoulder length with out bangs , wispy, with a few highlights does the trick. Also smokey eyes, always lined on the bottom and blush in the hollow of your cheeks helps a lot too.
long and layered, if you cut your hair too short, it'll make your face look big. Shorter haircuts are for slimer faces. Try getting it layered to frame your face and long layers in the back so you can flip up the layers or curl the ends, I think it'll look nice!
Check out these websites.. I hope they're helpful.

    Good Luck!
Alot of people will tell you to go for long hair to hide the shape of your head, but I disagree.. round shaped is the best. Pretty much anything as long as it's longer than your cheeks.

    Military hair cuts for woman?

Well since the first thing that you do when you get to boot camp is cut your hair...what are the options for woman?? what are the options for females?Military hair cuts for woman?
They shave you baldMilitary hair cuts for woman?
My female friends and relatives who are in the military, usually wear their hair pulled back in a bun, or in French braids or a Bob cut.

I'm a huge fan of the show ';JAG';, and the lead female officer, Sarah ';Mac'; MacKenzie, a Marine, wore her hair in the styles I mentioned.
How long is your hair right now and when do you ship out? A lot of females (me, included) do a sock bun. This works best if your hair is shoulder length or longer. Recently I found a great youtube video that teaches you how to do it.

Go to youtube.com and type in RE: sock bun tutorial

    It's the first one.

If your hair is too short to put into a sock bun, I would suggest cutting it off into a pixie style haircut. The regulations state that a female has to have feminine looking hair (aka no manly looking hairstyles) that fall above the collar and are neat and non-faddish.

Having a pageboy haircut will get really annoying and sweaty/messy throughout BCT, so either go real short or sock bun would be my suggestion.
If your hair is not above the shoulder you will have to put it up. You do not HAVE to cut your hair. If you have bangs grow them a bit so you can pin them back or you will be cutting them all the time to keep them above the eyebrow. You can google the grooming standards for any branch.
In the Air Force they send them to a female hair cutter for lack of better terms I guess. I can't speak for other branches, but I imagine they would cut it to proper length. Regulations usually allow no more than a 3 inch bulk and it has to be off and no longer than the collar.
in boot camp you will get it cut to your collar, but when you pass boot camp you can have it as long as you want it but when you put on that uniform you better keep it off that collar at all times.
women hair remain the same but it have to be kept clean, neat and tidy, to be fitted inside your cap, unless you want to be G.I Jane and go 100% bald.
you either pull your entire hair back into a bun (no bangs, or stray hairs)

you can braid it in cornrows

or simply just cut it shorter
you can keep it as long as you want but it must be kept above the collar
as for the army...check out AR 670-1 paragraph 4-8. if i remember correctly that is where you find female hair standards in the army.
i think its to the ear right all the way around.

But ive seen women have loose free flowing bangs too as along as the dont go over your eyes.
It depends on the branch. Specify what branch.
    its all the same

shoulder length it aint bad becuase you all have the same hair cut
I'm pretty sure that they must just keep it up in a slick bun. But I'm not completely sure.
I think you just have to wear it in a tight bun with no stray hairs
your hair is supose to be shoulder length.
    short hair...i dont think bald
i think you pull it back in a bun (low and tight)
really short. like rite under ur ears!!!! and it looks reallly bad :(

Good hair cuts for middle age women?

My mom is 47 and has no idea what to do with her hair. It's really thin and right now it's length is down to her chin and all one length. In my opinion it has no style and is too long. She needs an easy style to keep up. something where you can just get out of the shower and go. Any suggestions? Pictures of ideas are appreciated!

Thank you!Good hair cuts for middle age women?
It really depends more on the shape of her face. I suggest not too short based on an article I read in a magazine that said that long hair makes women look younger. However, she should consider some layers, which make the hair cut look modern. I suggest going to a rad place to get it cut and ask the stylist for suggestions.

    Edited:

In that case, a bob that is not too short tends to work. i would recommend one around ear lobe length with a layer or two not too much above, maybe an half an inch and some kind of longish side bangs. What I'm describing should look good when left alone, and since its thin hair it wont look all puffy and when blow dried it can look dressy. You don't want to make it too short a haircut, because it tends to make a round face look chubby.Good hair cuts for middle age women?
If sh ehas a good shaped face,a modren bob would be good
Not too short as it makes people look older. But at the same time not too long because it tends to look strange on older women, My mum is about the same age and she has sholder length hair. what type of cut really depends on the face shape. But i would go sholder length.

    :)
Have her check out bobs. There are a million different kinds and all they require a wash and dry with a little gel. my Mom has one and she is 55 yrs. old. She looks great and in style without trying to look young. She also only needs to wash her hair about every other day. It shouldn't be a problem with a good cut.

Do you think it's a sin for women to get their hair cut.?

    please, no rude answers.

Ok, My uncle is a schizo (but has an obsession with the bible, so he knows alot about it)

    One day I came down stairs and he said ';You cut your hair off..it's a sin.The bible says a women's hair is her glory.';

And so I said I'll get some opinions..so is it a sin??

if it is can ya give me a verse or something...Do you think it's a sin for women to get their hair cut.?
no it is not a sin.

Ask him to give you a verse then you can read what he is saying. You will find he is miss understanding what he has read. He probably heard it from someone whom he trusted and didn't ask God what it meant.

That is what you should do ask God what Paul is talking about.Do you think it's a sin for women to get their hair cut.?
no, it is not a sin. Many of what was written in the bible were opinions on how men wanted women to act and behave. Remember that when the bible was being written some women held high possessions in the pagan cultures, and men were intimidated by this. How else to rule women than to put rules within religious text and say do this or you are sinning against God? Some even dressed like men and wore their hair short. Yes, a woman's hair CAN be her glory, but sometimes it is either necessary or better to cut it. Some women look better with short hair while some look better with their hair long. Think on it.
Yes. If you cut your hair wear a veil otherwise you have no covering.

1Co 11:14 Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?

1Co 11:15 But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.
My grandfather was a preacher and my grandmother was a Sunday school teacher. She had short hair and nobody in their church said anything.

What would he say about women who donate their hair for wig making, fr children with cancer and such?
1 Corinthians 11:15But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.

Notice it says ';if'; not should have. It's ok to cut your hair.
Yes and that includes armpits, legs and bikini line. That's why true Christian ladies are so hairy and lovely.
The religious aspect of this question is so absurd that it doesn't even deserve an answer, but I will say that I love short hair. Hope this helps :-)
i believe it was jesus who said let he who is free of sin cast the first stone.....so tell your uncle to pick up his damn rock and go home!
What about the people with cancer? They have absolutely no hair sometimes and that's not their fault!
no it is not a sin

    that old stuff just fanatical

as long as you are decent thats ok

    :)

    jlu
why the hell would it be a sin. Tell your uncle to take a chill pill.
Hammy...I bet ya that a guy or two in here would disagree that a woman's hair is her glory...
No, but if they wanna look like a dude, thats their business
    No.
    No, it's not.
    no. its not a sin
yes, that includes pubic hair too lol
I don't think its a sin. but you need to be recognized as a women and not a man when doing so I know the bible says that a women's hair is her glory but it also says she was given power over her head because of the angles and judge in your selves is it comely that a women pray unto God uncovered Doth not even nature teach us that if a man have long hair it is a shame to him But if a women have long hair it is a glory to her because it was given to her for a covering. But if any man seem contintious we have no such custom neither the church's of God...
hahaha, your innocence is so funny.

The truth is that culturally speaking Paul was encouraging the women in Corinth not to be so bold as to make men stumble in their faith, or stir up problems that would lead to further issues. That region was known for their many social issues, and Paul was just giving his opinions based on his knowledge. The passage is found in 1 Corinthians 11.

However for your sake, no it is not a sin. And even if it were, we do not enter into heaven based on what we do, but by what the Blood of Jesus Christ has done for us. I think ur uncle was just messing wit you.

I hope that you atleast got a nice her cut considering what u have to put up with.

Are there really Christians out there who believe that it's a sin for women to have their hair cut shorter?

Someone was telling me this, I just found it hard to believe. And then I saw on the Today Show this morning, this very religious family with 17 children and all the girls including the mother had this very long thick hair and they were all wearing those smock dresses that make you look completely shapeless. I guess this is what my friend was talking about.

Is it certain sects of Christianity or fundamentalists in general? Is it a widespread belief? Where does the belief stem from? Are there really Christians out there who believe that it's a sin for women to have their hair cut shorter?
This is an often ';over-interpreted'; passage that mentions hair length (1 Cor 11:3-15.)

Background: When this was written, the Corinthian church was in the middle of a controversy about the roles of men and women and the proper order of authority within the church.

In the Corinthian society, women showed submission to their husbands by wearing a veil. It seems that some of the women in the church were discarding their veils, something that only pagan temple prostitutes or other rebellious women would do at that time.

For a woman to come to church without her veil would be dishonoring to her husband, as well as culturally confusing. (at that time, in that culture.)

By the same token, for a man to wear a veil or a turban or to somehow have his head covered during worship was not culturally acceptable in Corinth.

Paul appeals to biology to illustrate the appropriateness of following the cultural standards:

Women NATURALLY have longer hair than men, and men are much more prone to baldness. That is, God created women with a “natural veil” and men with an “uncovered head.”

If a woman spurns the mark of her submission (the veil), she may as well shave her head (verse 6). His point is that if the CULTURE says a woman should not be bald (going without her natural covering), then why would she reject that same culture’s standard of wearing a veil (going without her cultural covering)?

For the man’s part, it is unnatural for him to have “long hair” (verse 14). His hair is naturally shorter (and thinner) than the woman’s. This corresponds to the Corinthian tradition of men not wearing a head covering during worship.

Although most ultra-religious organizations, such as Pentacostally aligned congretations and very conservatively led church organizations tend to over-literalize this verse (and many other verses for that matter), Paul was simply urging the church to conform to the generally held ideas of male and female appearance.

That does NOT mean that a man has to have his hair a certain length, because the accepted norms differ from society to society. It also does NOT mean that a women with short hair is too masculine (although a women shaving her head, in most cultures, might be.)

Think about this: Jesus the Christ, based on the time and place of his birth, his society of the time, and the regions in which he travelled, more than likely had long hair.

One last thought: Not taking a verse of scripture ';literally'; is not a sign of rejection. On the contrary, believers are asked to ';rightly divide the word';. The key to that is often in understanding the context of a verse, and the society and culture of the time, as well as understanding the ';core';of the lesson the writer is trying to get across.

Good luck. Are there really Christians out there who believe that it's a sin for women to have their hair cut shorter?
There are people out there who do believe that having short hair is a sin. They call themselves ';Christians';. A Christian is someone who lives the way God wants them to live, according to the Bible. There are no scriptures in the Bible that back up their belief about needing to have long hair.

UFO: The scripture you posted (1 Cor 11:3-16) is about submission. It has nothing to do with hair.

I appreciate your willingness to help someone, but you need to do your homework before you start posting information.

Jed: You have also taken those scriptures out of context. In 1 Cor. 11:2 Paul wrote a letter to the church in Corinth to identify problems in the Corinthian church, to offer solutions, and to teach the believers how to live for Christ, while in a corrupt society, and his main concern is irreverence in worship. We need to read it in the context of the situation in Corinth. The matter of wearing hats or head coverings, although seemingly insignificant, had become a big problem because two cultural backgrounds were colliding. Jewish women always covered their heads in worship. For a woman to uncover her head in public was a sign or loose morals.
Do you know what a christian is?
(note I'm famous for long answers, sorry. and I dont spell very well, but please read and I think you will get the idea. Good question.)

From a strictly male point of view, I look at the part played in G I Jane by Demmie More, and as for her and the part she played, she pulled off the fact she was a soldier, an neve for a moment lost her femininety.

As a Christian, I believe that the rules regarding short hair had a lot to do with the scociety of the times. You see Pagan Temple prostitutes in the city of Corinth and others as well shaved their heads, that's how you knew you were with a temple prostitute. For a woman, as a temple prostitute to be converted, it was best she kept her head covered, untill susch time as her hair had grown out to a length that would not have identified her as an engaging in immoral activity.

For a high priestesses formerly caught up in the temple prostitution game to come in, after being converted, and try to take over a meeting in a newly formed Christian fellowship was not proper as well ( I believe that is why Paul shunned women from preaching to avoid confusion, and possible improper doctrine).

So fo me when I'm out and about and I see a girl in really lowcut jeans (so as to expose the lateral obliques and the ab line) I tend to find that visually stimulating. I don't want to have to see it, but of late girls from 16 to 40 just seem to be sticking it out there, same for ladies with breast ogmentation, I really dont want to have to see a large breasted woman obviously wearing a top that is designed to accencuate the cleavage of her body, but it's out there and all we men can do is try our best to look away.

Those Bald Girls back in oh say 55 to 75 A.D. were a major distraction and needed to be covered as a point of modesty.

I believe that women that wear short hair are fine, except for those obvious women that are trying to look male, dress male, have there hair done as a male this transsexual look and the Gay lifestyle. I don't buy it. And as for mulletts????

Haven't those girls figured out that it was a bad hair style for men, why drag it on, for a generation of Gay women to have to endure.

In closing, as a man that was very good at objectifying all women, God strengthens me and other men like me every day to overcome our short commings in that area. Shor hair long make no difference to me this day, I guess it is as Paul said, in Christ you have liberty to choose. Hair length I sure in not at the top of Gods priority for humanity these days.

I mean, how about this drive for Maddison Ave, to attract older men and women to younger looking boys and girls, to continue to show programs and movies with under age drinking, drug use, sex, violence, bondage and plain grotesque scenes of mutilation by some sort of sub-human thing on a person. For the shere gratification of graphic intence violence.

I think a hair cut in the light of these issues is a pretty nominal sin for a Christian these days...any thoughts?
1 Corinthians 11:2-16 covers this subject.

They should maintain long hair, but by and large, women seem to have taken their cue from the ideas of society, I think influenced highly by Hollywood.

In any event, yes, the reasons are listed and explained.

Any attempt to explain this away is nothing more than an attempt at justifying their disobedience.
Pentacostals believe that. Women can't wear pants, makeup, or have short hair. It stems from taking the bible way entirely too literal.
Hey! I guess I've commited yet another silly sin!

    Cheers!
I think that women with long hair looks sexier.
The United Pentecostals believe that. The bible says long hair on a woman is her glory and on a man is against nature. That is the only branch of Pentecostals that believe that except maybe Trinity Holiness.
Yes, there are. I've met some of them. As for the Duggars, the family you're probably referencing here, they practice their own unique brand of religion. I'll admit that I like long hair on women, but it's definitely not against my religion for them to cut it. It's their hair, and they can wear it any length they like. The people who are usually opposed to women cutting their hair are from various hardline Pentecostal sects, and take their cue from verses in 1st Corinthians. Also, most of my female Mennonite and Brethren friends have long hair, but wear it up in a bun under a headcovering.
    its all personal conviction.
Dunno about a sin, but it's often a damn shame.

It puzzles me that some women, who spend a great deal of time and money trying to look younger, will cut their hair short despite the fact that there's a direct link between youth and hair length.

I watched a doccy about a private investigator, who in many decades of work on adultery cases had noticed that the 'other woman' invariably had longer hair than the jilted wife.

    CD
some religions believe that women can't cut their hair and they also believe that its ';un-ladylike to wear pants...but i am a christian (catholic) and i cut my hair however the heck i want and i wear w/e i want too...lol
I know the Church of God believes it is a sin for a woman to wear pants, cut their hair or wear makeup. I disagree with that but I think they are fine, upstanding people.
There are some groups of Pentecostal churches that do not let women cut their hair or wear shorts or pants- skirts only. I think Mormons are that way on some levels too, but I am not sure. And Amish is another one.
I am christian and I have short hair and so does my grand mom and mom. Its all rubbish. Nothing like that babes
i dont think its a sin
yes there are they are penacostal and they believe that is the way it is oh and they also cant where pants jewlery or makeup
I think they may be Mennonites. I see them around here a lot. (Kansas) There is even a Christian school in the town I teach in that won't let the girls cut their hair. I found this article that goes in depth about it.

Those who follow Medieval Practices do it.
It wouldn't surprise me in the least.
It is not a widespread belief, or you wouldn't have to ask if it was. Those kind of beliefs are more ';religious'; than ';christian';, and usually stem from someone doesn't have a grasp of the truth, they are merely following the path set by their parents so they don't go to hell. (which may happen anyway)
In the beginning God made them male and female.Another words there was a distinction between the two of them.Just as a man has whiskers and a woman does not.God made them such.I see nothing wrong with a woman cutting her hair but when she looks more like a man than a woman there is a problem. The scripture some Christians follow comes from 1 Corinthians 11:1-16.After the end of WWII prostitutes in France who had catered to the Germans had their heads shaved to reveal their shame.Prostitutes of biblical times also shaved their heads as well.Today we have different customs, but for those who choose to follow out of conviction, God Bless them.
They consider it vainity and it is a sin.

Edit: the family you're speaking of are the Duggar's, they live in Arkansas, and belong to the UPC (United Pentecostle Church.) There are other non-Pentecostle sects that don't require this of their women.
I was raised as a fundie. I was told that women should have long hair because the bible says its shameful for a woman's hair to be shorn 1 cor 11:3-16 I think.
Yes, there are Christian sects that believe so. But they are a minority.
Yes there really are. For the most part I believe it's the Pentacostals. I wear mine long just so I can wear it big in the band.
